By GoldVetted Editorial TeamLast updated Last fact-checked How we research
Quick answer

  • Check dates: October 11 and 12, 2026
  • Spot range: C$5,961.43 to C$5,978.73 per oz
  • Next report: November 2026

Where was gold cheapest in Canada in October 2026?

A premium is the amount above the spot price, which is the wholesale price of one troy ounce of pure gold. Here are the cheapest and dearest sellers for each product we could price.

What does the Canadian data show this month?

How do Canadian premiums compare with other countries?

They were the lowest we found anywhere. Gold Stock Canada's 1.68% Maple Leaf on October 11 beat the cheapest 1 oz item in the UK report (a Britannia at 2.77% to 2.80%), the Australia report (a 1oz cast bar at 2.76% to 2.98%) and the US report (an Eagle at 3.33% by wire). Our data cannot say why. One relevant fact: the Maple Leaf is made in Canada, by the Royal Canadian Mint. See the Royal Canadian Mint review and the Maple Leaf guide.

Is Gold Stock Canada cheaper than Canadian PMX?

For a 1 oz Maple Leaf, yes, by about 1.4 points: 1.68% against 3.16% on October 11, and 1.76% against 3.19% on October 12. The products differ slightly: Gold Stock Canada's is a random-year coin, while Canadian PMX's is a 2026 coin, and current-year coins often cost a little more. Read the Gold Stock Canada review and Canadian PMX review for shipping and showroom details.

See Gold Stock Canada's Maple Leaf price Compare at Canadian PMX

Does buying from a bank cost more?

TD Precious Metals was the dearest Maple Leaf seller in our data. At 06:32 UTC on October 12 it showed C$6,191.98 (3.82% over spot of C$5,964.19) as its price for TD customers paying from a TD account. Our daily read at 07:51 UTC recorded its listing price of C$6,202.01 (4.04%). These are two different price labels on the same page, not a price change. Both were well above Gold Stock Canada's 1.76%. See buying gold from Canadian banks and our TD Precious Metals review.

How much cheaper are larger bars?

Gold Stock Canada bar premiums by size, October 12, 2026

1 kilo, various refiners (wire)C$193,027.540.60%C$5,968.13

The kilo bar works out at about C$6,003.83 per ounce, C$62.24 less per ounce than the same dealer's Maple Leaf that morning. A plain Ontario Mint Corp 10 g bar was also 1.29 points cheaper than a branded PAMP bar of the same weight. Our 1 kilo, 100 gram and 10 gram bar guides explain the trade-offs.

How much does paying by card add?

On October 11, a card price was 3.81 points above wire or cheque at Gold Stock Canada (C$6,307.16 against C$6,079.19) and 4.13 points above at Canadian PMX (C$6,414.40 against C$6,167.69). That is more than double Gold Stock Canada's whole wire premium.

What changed between October 11 and 12?

We have no Canadian reads from October 10. Between the Sunday read on October 11 and the Monday morning read on October 12, spot fell 0.29%, from C$5,978.73 to C$5,961.43. Both dealers cut their Maple Leaf price, but by a little less than spot fell, so premiums rose slightly.

Which Canadian sellers are not priced, and why?

Canadian sellers we tried to price in October 2026
SellerReason
Silver Gold BullIts site does not allow automated price checks, so we do not publish a premium for it.
CIBCSells gold through its online banking platform, so there was no public product page for our script to read and no price was captured.

Neither absence is a judgement on price. For a side-by-side on fees and policies, see Canadian PMX vs Silver Gold Bull.

How were these premiums worked out?

  1. Single-item price

Our script read the price for one coin or bar (quantity 1) on the seller's own product page, recording wire or cheque and card prices separately where both were shown.

  2. Spot at the same time

Spot came from gold-api.com (XAU/CAD) at the time of each read.

  3. One formula

    Premium = price / (fine oz x spot) - 1. A Maple Leaf holds 1 troy oz of 99.99% pure gold; a 100 g bar 3.21507 oz; a kilo bar 32.15075 oz.
