Australia gold premium report: October 2026
Australia had the tightest gold market we measured in October 2026. Four 1oz Perth Mint bars from three sellers sat within half a point of each other, and The Perth Mint's own cast bar was cheapest at 2.86% over spot on 11 October and 2.98% on 12 October. Bank transfer at Jaggards saved 1.80 points.
This is the first monthly Australian edition of the GoldVetted premium tracker. Each figure is a price our script read from a seller's own product page on 11 or 12 October 2026, shown with its time and the spot price used.
- Sellers priced: The Perth Mint, Ainslie Bullion, Jaggards
- Prices recorded: 26 buy prices, plus Perth Mint jewellery buy prices
- Check dates: 11 and 12 October 2026
- Spot range: A$5,987.36 to A$6,012.71 per oz
- Next report: November 2026
Where was gold cheapest in Australia in October 2026?
A premium is the amount you pay above the spot price, the wholesale price of one troy ounce of pure gold. This table gives the cheapest and dearest seller for each product we could price.
| Product | Cheapest | Dearest | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1oz coin (Kangaroo) | Ainslie Bullion, various years, A$6,240.24, 3.78% | Ainslie Bullion, 2026, A$6,245.24, 3.87% (both 11 Oct, 16:08 UTC, spot A$6,012.71) | A$5.00 |
| Small coins | Not priced this month. Small bars instead (The Perth Mint, 12 Oct): Kangaroo minted 20 g 3.91%, 10 g 6.27%, 5 g 8.35%, 1 g 23.29% | ||
| 1oz bar | The Perth Mint, cast, A$6,165.72, 2.98% | The Perth Mint, Swan minted, A$6,195.72, 3.48% (both 12 Oct, 07:51 UTC, spot A$5,987.36) | A$30.00 |
| 1 kilo bar | Not priced: The Perth Mint's 1 kg cast bar is special order with no online price. Largest bar priced: The Perth Mint 10oz cast, A$61,180.14, 2.07% (12 Oct, spot A$5,993.80) | ||
| Card vs bank transfer gap | Jaggards, Swan 1oz bar: standard price A$6,301.57 (4.80%) against A$6,193.19 (3.00%) by bank transfer or cash, a gap of 1.80 points or A$108.38 (11 Oct, 16:08 UTC). Other sellers showed one price | ||
| Buyback and round trip | Not measured for bullion this month. The Perth Mint's indicative jewellery buy price was 77% of spot value (12 Oct) | ||
GoldVetted automated price checks, 11 and 12 October 2026. Jaggards' highest 1oz price (its standard price, 4.80%) is left out of the 1oz bar row so the row compares like with like. Investment gold of at least 99.5% purity carries no GST (ATO GSTR 2003/10); see Australian gold tax.
What does the Australian data show this month?
How close were Australian 1oz bar prices?
Very close. On 11 October the four 1oz Perth Mint bars we priced ran from 2.86% to 3.35% over spot, a spread of 0.49 points. On 12 October they ran from 2.98% to 3.48%, a spread of 0.50 points. That is far tighter than the UK, where the same 1oz Britannia ranged from 2.77% to 6.83% (see the UK report). For an Australian buyer, delivery, stock and payment method may matter as much as the premium.
Is it cheaper to buy direct from The Perth Mint?
For its 1oz cast bar, yes: it was the cheapest 1oz product in both daily reads. Its minted Swan bar, though, was the dearest of the four, and Ainslie Bullion and Jaggards sold the same Swan bar for less (2.87% and 3.00% against The Perth Mint's 3.35% on 11 October). The Perth Mint is run by Gold Corporation, owned by the Government of Western Australia; more in the Perth Mint review and our guide to buying from The Perth Mint.
See The Perth Mint's 1oz cast bar Compare at Ainslie Bullion
Should you buy a cast bar or a minted bar?
On price, the cast bar won. At The Perth Mint the 1oz cast bar was exactly A$30.00 cheaper than the 1oz minted Swan bar on both days. A cast bar is poured into a mould, while a minted bar is cut from a sheet and struck with a design, which adds cost. Neither holds more gold. Read cast vs minted gold bars and the 1 ounce gold bar guide.
How much more does a Kangaroo coin cost than a bar?
At Ainslie Bullion on 11 October, a 1oz Kangaroo of various years cost A$6,240.24 (3.78%), A$55.00 more than the 1oz Swan minted bar at 2.87%. A 2026-dated Kangaroo was another A$5.00. Coins carry a higher premium but are often easier to sell in small amounts; see the Kangaroo guide and the Ainslie Bullion review.
How do premiums change with bar size?
| Bar | Price | Premium | Spot used |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kangaroo 1 g minted | A$237.63 | 23.29% | A$5,995.09 |
| Kangaroo 5 g minted | A$1,044.16 | 8.35% | A$5,995.09 |
| Kangaroo 10 g minted | A$2,048.32 | 6.27% | A$5,995.09 |
| Kangaroo 20 g minted | A$4,005.61 | 3.91% | A$5,995.09 |
| Kangaroo 50 g minted | A$9,914.54 | 2.88% | A$5,995.09 |
| Kangaroo 100 g minted | A$19,768.06 | 2.56% | A$5,995.09 |
| 100 g cast | A$19,707.25 | 2.21% | A$5,997.24 |
| 5oz cast | A$30,628.08 | 2.20% | A$5,993.80 |
| 10oz cast | A$61,180.14 | 2.07% | A$5,993.80 |
Premiums fall steeply up to about 50 g and then flatten. Moving from a 100 g cast bar to a 10oz cast bar saved only 0.14 points. See the 1 gram gold bar guide for why the smallest bars cost so much more.
Does Jaggards charge less for bank transfer?
Yes. On 11 October its 1oz Swan bar was A$6,193.19 by bank transfer or cash and A$6,301.57 at its standard price, a gap of 1.80 points. That is smaller than the 3.8 to 4.5 point card gaps we recorded in the US and Canada. The bar was on backorder at the time. More in the Jaggards review.
What does The Perth Mint pay for gold jewellery?
We have no bullion buyback prices for Australia this month, so we cannot show a round-trip cost. The Perth Mint did post indicative jewellery buy prices: 24 carat at A$148.58 per gram at 06:59 UTC (2:59 pm AWST) on 12 October, 77% of the spot value of the gold (spot A$5,996.67). Final prices are set in store. See selling gold in Australia.

GoldVetted automated price checks, 11 and 12 October 2026. The Perth Mint was read several times on 12 October, so some products appear at slightly different prices and spots. The Lakshmi 1 g bar is a design bar, priced for its design rather than its gold.
Which sellers and products are not priced, and why?
| Seller or product | Reason |
|---|---|
| ABC Bullion | Its site does not allow automated price checks, so we do not publish a premium for it. |
| The Perth Mint 1 kg cast bar | Special order with no online price shown, so there was nothing for our script to read. |
Being left out is not a judgement on price. For a policy-by-policy comparison, see Perth Mint vs ABC Bullion.
How were these premiums worked out?
Single-item price
Our script read the price for one coin or bar (quantity 1) on the seller's own product page, recording bank transfer and standard prices separately where both were shown.
Spot at the same time
Spot came from gold-api.com (XAU/AUD) at the time of each read.
One formula
Premium = price / (fine oz x spot) - 1. A 1oz bar or Kangaroo holds 1 troy oz of pure gold; 100 g is 3.21507 oz; 1 g is 0.03215 oz.
The full method and the US, UK and Canada figures are on the premium tracker. Check any quote with the premium calculator.

Frequently asked questions
Where was the cheapest 1oz gold bar in Australia in October 2026?
The Perth Mint's own 1oz cast bar. It cost A$6,184.39 on 11 October 2026, 2.86% over spot of A$6,012.71, and A$6,165.72 (2.98%) at 07:51 UTC on 12 October. Ainslie Bullion's Perth Mint Swan minted bar was a close second at 2.87%, then 3.06%.
Is The Perth Mint more expensive than dealers?
Not for its cast bar. In our October 2026 checks The Perth Mint sold the cheapest 1oz bar we found in Australia. Its minted Swan bar was the dearest 1oz bar at the bank transfer or single price, at 3.35% to 3.48%, but only half a point above the cheapest. See our Perth Mint review.
Is a cast bar cheaper than a minted bar?
In our data, yes. At The Perth Mint the 1oz cast bar was A$30.00 cheaper than the 1oz minted Swan bar on both 11 and 12 October 2026, about half a percentage point. Minted bars are struck and polished, which costs more. See cast vs minted gold bars.
Does paying by bank transfer save money in Australia?
At Jaggards it did. On 11 October 2026 its 1oz Perth Mint Swan bar was A$6,193.19 (3.00% over spot) by bank transfer or cash, against a standard price of A$6,301.57 (4.80%). That is a saving of A$108.38, or 1.80 points. The other sellers showed one price.
Why is ABC Bullion not in the Australia report?
ABC Bullion's site does not allow automated price checks, so we do not publish a premium for it. That is not a judgement on its prices. Our ABC Bullion review covers its fees and policies, and we compare it with The Perth Mint on policies rather than price.
When is the next Australia premium report?
November 2026. It will repeat the 1oz bar, Kangaroo and bar-size reads, and we aim to add bullion buyback prices so we can show a round-trip cost. The four-country data set is on the premium tracker.
