ABC Bullion review: is it a good place to buy gold?
ABC Bullion is a long-established Sydney dealer, trading since 1972 and owned by the private Pallion group, with its own LBMA-listed refinery and vaults. Storage for its own gold costs from 0.55% a year. Its site does not allow automated price checks, so we do not publish a premium for it, and online service reviews are mixed.
ABC Bullion is unusual among Australian dealers because it makes much of what it sells. Its cast bars and Eureka minted tablets come from a sister refinery in Marrickville, and its storage sits inside the same group. That vertical setup shapes its fees, its buyback terms and who it suits.

How ABC Bullion scores on our checks
We use the same criteria for every dealer, and score only what we could confirm from ABC Bullion's own pages, company records and independent review sites. No star rating, no testimonials. See how we review gold dealers for the full method.
| Check | Result | What we found |
|---|---|---|
| Premium we could verify | Not measured | Its site does not allow automated price checks, so we do not publish a premium for it. |
| Ownership and track record | Meets | Trading since 1972; active ABN; part of Pallion, which also owns its refinery and vaults. |
| Product quality and origin | Meets | Own-brand bars from an LBMA Good Delivery refinery in Marrickville. |
| Insured delivery | Partly | Insurance costs 1% and is optional under A$8,000; included by hand-to-hand carrier above. |
| Storage | Meets | Free pooled option; segregated storage from 0.55% a year; Lloyd's of London cover and twice-yearly independent assurance reports. |
| Buyback available | Meets | Showroom, phone and online buyback, no minimum, settlement usually within one business day. |
| Clear published terms | Partly | Payment deadline, ID rules and third-party product buyback are listed as FAQ questions, but we could not read the answers. |
| Customer service record | Partly | Strong on Trustpilot and Google overall, but complaints about phone waits and slow email replies recur. |
How much does ABC Bullion charge?
Every gold price is the spot price (the wholesale value of an ounce of pure gold) plus a premium for making, handling and margin. ABC Bullion's site does not allow automated price checks, so we do not publish a premium for it. Its own pages mention "preferential pricing" on ABC products when you sell back, but no fixed margin.
What we can give you is the benchmark. These are the lowest 1oz prices our automated check captured from other Australian sellers on the same morning. Open ABC's live price for a comparable 1oz bar and set it against these numbers on the day you buy.
| Seller | Product | Price | Premium over spot |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Perth Mint | Perth Mint 1oz cast bar | A$6,165.72 | 2.98% |
| Ainslie Bullion | Perth Mint Swan 1oz minted bar | A$6,170.87 | 3.06% |
| Jaggards | Perth Mint Swan 1oz minted bar (bank transfer or cash) | A$6,182.34 | 3.26% |
| ABC Bullion | Not shown: its site does not allow automated price checks | ||
GoldVetted automated price check, 12 October 2026, 07:51 UTC; spot from gold-api.com. Single-unit prices, delivery excluded. Premium = price ÷ (fine ounces × spot) − 1. Use our premium calculator to turn any ABC quote into a percentage.
What this means for you: if ABC's price for a 1oz bar works out at around 3% over spot, it is in line with the cheapest sellers we could measure. Remember to add delivery. ABC's A$30 flat rate plus 1% insurance (about A$62 on a 1oz bar) adds more than A$90 to a single-bar order, so buying several bars at once, or collecting from a showroom, makes a bigger difference here than at sellers who charge by weight.
Payment, delivery and insurance
ABC's FAQs name PayID and BPAY as its preferred payment channels. Cash deposited into its account at a bank branch is not accepted: the invoice is cancelled, the money goes back to the originating bank, and the depositor may have to cover ABC's costs. The FAQs also list questions on how long you have to pay and whether prices can be locked, but the answers were not readable when we checked, so confirm both before you order.
| Order value | Delivery fee | Insurance | Carrier and handover |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under A$8,000 (regular) | A$30 flat | 1% of order value, optional | Secure courier, signature required; PO boxes allowed |
| Under A$8,000 (Express) | A$130 flat | 1% of order value, optional | Dispatched within 24 hours of full payment |
| A$8,000 and over | A$100 first kg + A$15 per extra kg | 1% of order value, included | Hand-to-hand carrier, delivery day chosen by SMS; home address only |
Source: ABC Bullion delivering metal page. Standard orders are usually dispatched within three business days, never on a Friday; metro delivery takes two to three business days and regional five to seven.
Two rules worth knowing: an uninsured or missed parcel under A$8,000 goes to the nearest post office or depot and must be collected within three business days or the insurance may lapse, and orders of A$8,000 or more cannot go to a work address.
Where does ABC Bullion store gold?
ABC offers four storage tiers. The difference between them matters for what you actually own.
| Option | What you hold | ABC gold | Other refiners' gold |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pool Allocated | A share of a pooled holding; can be converted to bars for a per-unit fee | No fee | Not stated |
| Secure Storage | Segregated ABC cast bars and minted products | 0.55% a year | 1.25% a year |
| Premium Storage | Serial-numbered bars allocated to your account | 0.65% a year | 1.50% a year |
| Private vault (Custodian Vaults) | Your own private vault in Sydney or Perth | Fees not published | |
Fees are a yearly percentage of average holdings, billed quarterly. A VIP rate of 0.49% applies to 5 kg or more of ABC gold. ABC's own example: A$100,000 of ABC gold in Secure Storage costs A$550 a year.
ABC's storage page says holdings are insured through Lloyd's of London underwriters and verified by twice-yearly independent assurance reports, and that stored metal can be collected free at any of its Australian locations. The higher fee for other refiners' bars is a clear nudge to buy ABC products. For comparison, the Perth Mint charges 1% a year for allocated gold and nothing for unallocated, as our Perth Mint vs ABC Bullion comparison sets out. Our guide to allocated vs unallocated gold explains why pooled holdings carry different risks.
Selling gold back to ABC Bullion
ABC's sell pages describe three routes. Showrooms buy "gold, silver and platinum bullion bars, coins and minted tablets" with no appointment needed. Anyone can also sell by phone on 1300 361 261 during business hours. Clients whose metal is already in ABC storage can sell online 24 hours a day, with settlement typically the same day or within one business day, paid to a nominated bank account. There is no minimum sale, but you must open an ABC account first (free, and under five minutes online, ABC says).
ABC promises preferential prices on its own products. Its pages did not say whether it buys bars from other refiners on the same terms, or describe a postal service, and the FAQ answers on ID and third-party products were not readable. If you hold mixed brands, ask for a quote before travelling. Compare with other buyers in our guide to selling gold in Australia.
What customers say
We do not write testimonials or invent ratings. These scores come from Trustpilot and ProductReview.com.au, viewed in October 2026, and Google Maps listing data retrieved on 12 October 2026.
| Site or listing | Score shown | Based on |
|---|---|---|
| Trustpilot | 4.5 out of 5 | 224 reviews (does not invite reviews) |
| Google: Martin Place, Sydney | 4.3 out of 5 | 1,061 ratings |
| Google: Collins Street, Melbourne | 3.9 out of 5 | 159 ratings |
| Google: Queen Street, Brisbane | 4.5 out of 5 | 100 ratings |
| Google: St Georges Terrace, Perth | 4.5 out of 5 | 108 ratings |
| ProductReview.com.au | 1.0 out of 5 | 3 reviews |
The scores are split. Most Google and Trustpilot reviewers rate ABC five stars, often mentioning friendly showroom staff, yet about one in five Trustpilot reviews is one star. The negative reviews, including all three on ProductReview, describe the same problems: long phone holds, emails unanswered for days and delivery delays. Queues at the Sydney flagship are also a recurring theme on Google. If you order online, keep your invoice and payment receipt and allow extra time.

Who ABC Bullion suits, and who should look elsewhere
Good fit: buyers who want Australian-refined bars and plan to store them with the dealer, SMSF trustees who value quarterly valuations and assurance reports, and people near one of its four showrooms who can collect and sell in person.
Look elsewhere if: you want to compare an exact premium before buying, are placing a small single-bar delivery order where the flat fee bites, or need quick replies by email. Our guide to the best places to buy gold in Australia lists sellers whose prices we could measure.
