Gold Stock Canada review: is it a good place to buy gold?
Gold Stock Canada, a Toronto dealer and refiner, was the cheapest Canadian dealer in our October 2026 checks: 1.68% over spot for a 1 oz Maple Leaf by wire, and the lowest premium on every bar size we captured in Canada. It has a walk-in showroom and states buyback at 95% to 98% of spot. Its weak point is limited independent reviews.
Most dealers hide their markup inside a single price. Gold Stock Canada shows it. On its random-year Maple Leaf page, the line under the price reads "Premium Over Spot +$100.00", measured against the spot price on its own site. A flat dollar markup on a coin worth about CA$6,000 is why it came out cheapest in our checks, and why its percentage barely moves as gold rises or falls.

How does Gold Stock Canada score on our checks?
Every dealer is assessed against the same published criteria, explained in how we review gold dealers. This is not a star rating, and it is not based on testimonials.
| Check | Result | What we found |
|---|---|---|
| Premium we could verify | Meets | Lowest Canadian Maple Leaf premium on 11 and 12 October 2026, and lowest Canadian bar premiums at every size we captured. |
| Clear, live pricing | Meets | Shows spot, the dollar premium and the percentage on the product page. |
| Low payment fees | Partly | Wire, cheque and e-Transfer get the lowest price; cards cost 3.75% more. |
| Insured delivery | Meets | Free, fully insured shipping over $500, or pickup in Toronto. |
| Buyback available | Meets | Publishes payout ranges as a share of spot; same-day payment for walk-ins. |
| Ownership and track record | Partly | Long-standing Toronto business, but privately owned, its own pages give two different start years, and we found no BBB profile. |
| Independent reviews | Partly | Only three Trustpilot reviews. It displays a Google rating on its own site, which we could not view directly. |
How much does Gold Stock Canada charge?
The gold spot price in Canadian dollars is the wholesale price of one troy ounce. Dealers add a premium on top, which covers minting, shipping and their margin; our guide to gold premiums explained covers the detail. Here is how Gold Stock Canada compared with other Canadian sellers on the same coin:
| Dealer and date | Coin and payment | Price | Spot | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gold Stock Canada, 11 Oct | Random year, wire or cheque | CA$6,079.19 | CA$5,978.73 | 1.68% |
| Canadian PMX, 11 Oct | 2026, wire or bank draft | CA$6,167.69 | CA$5,978.73 | 3.16% |
| Gold Stock Canada, 11 Oct | Random year, card or PayPal | CA$6,307.16 | CA$5,978.73 | 5.49% |
| Gold Stock Canada, 12 Oct | Random year, wire | CA$6,066.07 | CA$5,961.43 | 1.76% |
| Canadian PMX, 12 Oct | 2026, wire | CA$6,151.40 | CA$5,961.43 | 3.19% |
| TD Precious Metals, 12 Oct | Current year, listing price | CA$6,202.01 | CA$5,961.43 | 4.04% |
Prices read automatically from each dealer's product page: 11 October at about 12:05 UTC (market closed), 12 October at about 07:51 UTC. Spot from gold-api.com. A Maple Leaf holds one troy ounce of 99.99% gold, so premium = price / spot - 1. A random-year coin is usually a little cheaper than a current-year coin, so the rows are close but not identical products. Silver Gold Bull's site does not allow automated price checks, so it is not shown.
In cash terms, Gold Stock Canada's coin was CA$85.33 cheaper than Canadian PMX's and CA$135.94 cheaper than TD's on 12 October. The bigger swing, though, is how you pay: its own card price was CA$227.97 above its wire price on 11 October.
Gold bar prices
Gold Stock Canada was the only Canadian dealer whose bars we captured on 12 October 2026. Against dealers in the UK, US and Australia checked the same morning, it had the lowest percentage premium at 1 g, 10 g, 50 g, 100 g, 10 oz and 1 kg. At 5 g, the Perth Mint's bar was cheaper in percentage terms.
| Bar | Price | Premium over spot |
|---|---|---|
| PAMP Suisse 1 g | CA$226.61 | 18.18% |
| PAMP Suisse 5 g | CA$1,059.10 | 10.39% |
| Ontario Mint Corp 10 g | CA$1,990.86 | 3.81% |
| PAMP Suisse 10 g | CA$2,015.58 | 5.10% |
| PAMP Suisse 50 g | CA$9,833.77 | 2.48% |
| Ontario Mint Corp 100 g | CA$19,356.11 | 0.96% |
| 10 oz bar, various refiners | CA$60,660.17 | 1.63% |
| 1 kg bar, various refiners | CA$193,027.54 | 0.60% |
Spot from gold-api.com at the time of each read, between CA$5,963.34 and CA$5,969.41 per troy ounce. Premium = price / (fine ounces x spot) - 1. The 10 oz card price was CA$62,934.93. For the 10 oz and 1 kg bars, the refiner is chosen by the dealer, not by you. See the premium tracker for repeat checks.
The pattern is what you would expect: very small bars carry a heavy markup, and premiums fall below 1% from 100 g upwards. If you are buying a few thousand dollars of gold, a 10 g Ontario Mint Corp bar was far better value than two 5 g bars.
Payment, shipping and pickup
The product page labels bank wire or cheque as the "lowest price". Interac e-Transfer and cash in the showroom are also accepted. Visa, Mastercard and Amex work too, but in both of our checks the card or PayPal price was exactly 3.75% higher than the wire price, on a coin and on a 10 oz bar. Its FAQ says you can lock a price when you place an order and that the price at order confirmation is honoured.
Shipping is free and fully insured on orders over $500. Orders placed before 2 p.m. Eastern are dispatched the same day, with delivery in 1 to 10 business days. In Toronto, you can choose pickup at checkout or simply walk in: the homepage lists Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., though its About page lists weekday hours only, so call ahead before a Saturday visit. Pure gold bullion carries no GST or HST; see our Canadian gold tax guide.
Selling gold back to Gold Stock Canada
Gold Stock Canada publishes what it typically pays, as a share of spot, which few Canadian dealers do:
| What you sell | Purity | Typical payout |
|---|---|---|
| LBMA gold bars | 99.99% | 95% to 98% of spot |
| Maple Leaf or Eagle coins | 99.99% or 91.67% | 95% to 98% of spot |
| 24K jewellery | 99.0%+ | 92% to 96% |
| 18K jewellery | 75.0% | 88% to 92% |
| 14K jewellery | 58.3% | 85% to 90% |
| 10K jewellery | 41.7% | 82% to 88% |
Jewellery percentages apply to the gold content, not the total weight. The page says rates vary with volume and payment method and asks you to request an exact quote.
To see what that means for a round trip: at the 12 October spot of CA$5,961.43, 98% of spot is CA$5,842.20 and 95% is CA$5,663.36. Against the CA$6,066.07 buy price that day, selling the coin straight back would cost between CA$223.87 (3.7%) and CA$402.71 (6.6%). That gap is the spread, and it is why gold suits holding for years rather than weeks.
Walk-in sellers are paid the same day by cash, e-Transfer or cheque. If you live elsewhere in Canada, it will send a prepaid, insured shipping label and pays within 1 to 2 business days of verifying your metal. Valid government photo ID is required for every transaction. Our guide to selling gold in Canada compares its ranges with other buyers.
Storage and GoldX
Gold Stock Canada also offers vault storage through Canadian partners it names only when you open an account. Annual fees for gold are 0.75% for pooled, unallocated metal (minimum $100 a year), 1.00% for allocated metal held under your name ($200 minimum) and 1.25% for individually segregated holdings ($500 minimum), plus a $50 setup fee and $25 per withdrawal on the lower tiers. On a CA$25,000 holding, the allocated tier would cost about CA$250 a year.
Separately, its GoldX account lets you buy gold from $1 at the live spot price, held in its Toronto vault and convertible to coins or bars later. It does not publish a full fee schedule or the spread for GoldX, so get those in writing first. If you are weighing a vault account against owning coins at home, the trade-offs are similar to those in our BullionVault vs GoldCore comparison.
What customers say
We do not publish testimonials or invent ratings. Independent coverage is thin:
| Site | Score shown | Based on |
|---|---|---|
| Trustpilot (claimed October 2021) | 2.8 out of 5 | 3 reviews |
| Google (as displayed on the dealer's own homepage) | 4.8 out of 5 | 710 reviews; we could not view the Google listing directly |
| Better Business Bureau | No profile found in BBB's Ontario gold buyer listings | |
Three Trustpilot reviews are too few to judge either way. If you are making a large first purchase, a showroom visit or a small test order is a sensible way to check service for yourself.
