Where to buy and sell gold in Adelaide

By GoldVetted Editorial TeamLast updated Last fact-checked How we research
Quick answer

Adelaide has a handful of local bullion dealers, including City Gold Bullion on King William Street, Vintari in Clarence Gardens and Adelaide Exchange Jewellers. No national mint or big dealer has a showroom in the city, so many buyers order online: delivery from The Perth Mint starts at A$17.50 for a 1oz bar.

South Australia has a long mining history, but its capital has no mint shop or national bullion showroom. That shapes how people in Adelaide buy gold. You can walk into one of a few independent local dealers, or order from a big interstate seller in Perth, Sydney or Brisbane and have it couriered to your door. This guide lists the Adelaide dealers we could verify from their own websites, what delivery from the national dealers costs, and where to sell. Every dealer named here was checked on 12 October 2026. We list names and areas only; confirm opening times with the dealer before you go.

Which bullion dealers are in Adelaide?

We only list a business if its own website (or an official listing) says it trades gold bullion from Adelaide premises. Plenty of jewellers and cash-for-gold shops also buy gold, but they are not bullion dealers.

Sources: each dealer's own website, read 12 October 2026, and the Rundle Mall store directory for Adelaide Exchange Jewellers. We did not capture local prices, because these sites quote by product or in store, so we do not publish a premium for them. A listing here is not an endorsement.

City Gold Bullion is the only dealer we found that publishes a bullion counter right in the CBD, on King William Street. Adelaide Exchange Jewellers is a jeweller and bullion trader with a CBD store listed in the Rundle Mall directory and branches in Glenelg, Modbury and Mitcham, which helps if you live in the southern or north-eastern suburbs. Vintari trades from Clarence Gardens in the inner south and sells bullion through its own online shop as well. Adelaide Bullion is run by the Queensland Mint; it is a Queensland company with an Adelaide collection office, so think of it as online buying with local pickup.

What does delivery to Adelaide cost from the national dealers?

Australia's largest sellers are interstate: The Perth Mint in Perth, Ainslie Bullion in Brisbane (with stores on the Gold Coast and in Melbourne), and Jaggards and ABC Bullion in Sydney. All of them deliver to South Australian addresses. The cost structure matters more than the distance, because some charge by weight and some charge a flat fee plus insurance.

From each dealer's delivery or shipping page, as summarised in our reviews of The Perth Mint, Ainslie Bullion, Jaggards and ABC Bullion. Dollar examples assume a 1oz bar worth about A$6,200.

Pick a dealer by the total, not the headline price. On a single bar, The Perth Mint's A$17.50 freight (with cover declined) is the cheapest way to get gold to Adelaide; add the optional 1.1% cover and it costs about A$68 more. Ainslie's fee includes insurance, which makes its roughly A$52 easier to compare. On bigger orders, Ainslie's percentage-based fee grows with value while The Perth Mint's charge follows weight.

To compare totals for an Adelaide delivery, check The Perth Mint's prices, Ainslie's prices or Jaggards' bank transfer price, then add freight at checkout.

Is buying in Adelaide cheaper than buying online?

There is no single answer, because local dealers in Adelaide quote on request or in store and we could not capture their prices automatically. What we can give you is the online benchmark. In our Australian price check on 11 October 2026 (spot A$6,012.71 an ounce), a 1oz Perth Mint cast bar cost A$6,184.39 direct from The Perth Mint, 2.86% over spot, and a Perth Mint Swan 1oz minted bar cost A$6,185.24 at Ainslie, 2.87% over. The premium is the amount above the spot price, the live wholesale value of the gold.

A simple test: ask a local dealer for a firm price on a named product, such as a 1oz Perth Mint bar, then check the same product online and add delivery. Use our premium calculator on the Australia page to turn any quote into a percentage over spot. Where can you sell gold in Adelaide?

You have two routes: sell to a local buyer face to face, or post bullion to a national dealer.

  • Locally. Adelaide Exchange Jewellers says it buys back "ingots, bullion bars and gold and silver coins" as well as jewellery, at its stores across the city. Vintari and City Gold Bullion also buy gold. Ask whether the price offered is for bullion or for scrap; bullion should be paid close to spot.
  • By post. Ainslie Bullion buys posted bullion from anywhere in Australia if you verify your ID online first, keep each parcel under A$25,000 and send it by Express Post with signature on delivery. On 12 October 2026 its estimator quoted A$5,877.61 for 1oz, 1.96% below spot. Jaggards also buys by post, and listed A$5,798.57 for a 1oz .9999 bar or coin the same day, 3.31% below spot.

Jewellery is a different market. The Perth Mint publishes what it pays for scrap, about 77% of the gold's spot value on 12 October 2026, but it buys only in person in East Perth. That figure is still a useful yardstick for any Adelaide jewellery offer. Our guide to where to sell gold in Australia has the full buyback comparison.

What tax applies to gold in Adelaide?

Unlike US states, South Australia charges no state sales tax of its own; GST is national, so the rules in Adelaide are the same as in Perth or Sydney. Under ATO ruling GSTR 2003/10, gold of at least 99.5% fineness in an investment form (a bar, wafer or bullion coin) is input taxed, so no GST is added when you buy or sell it. Jewellery and 22 carat coins such as Sovereigns and Krugerrands can carry 10% GST. A profit on sale is a capital gain; resident individuals who owned the gold for 12 months or more can halve it first. Our Australian gold tax guide explains record keeping. This is general information, not tax advice.

How do you buy gold safely in person in Adelaide?

  1. Check the dealer first

Look for a fixed business address on its own website, an ABN and clear buyback terms. Be wary of private sellers on marketplaces offering bars below spot.

  2. Ask for a firm, itemised price

Get the product, weight, fineness and price in writing, and work out the premium against live spot (... an ounce at Loading).

  3. Prefer bank transfer

From 1 July 2026, AUSTRAC rules mean cash deals of A$10,000 or more require ID checks and reporting. A dealer offering large cash with no questions is a red flag.

  4. Keep the invoice

You need it to prove your cost for capital gains tax, and buyers may ask for it when you sell.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I buy gold bullion in person in Adelaide?

Dealers whose own websites list Adelaide premises include City Gold Bullion on King William Street in the CBD, Vintari in Clarence Gardens, and Adelaide Exchange Jewellers, which lists stores in the CBD, Glenelg, Modbury and Mitcham. None of the big national names, such as The Perth Mint, ABC Bullion, Ainslie or Jaggards, lists an Adelaide showroom.

Is it cheaper to buy gold in Adelaide or online?

It depends on the day and the product. On 11 October 2026, our check found 1oz bars online from 2.86% over spot (The Perth Mint's cast bar) and 2.87% (Ainslie's Swan minted bar). Delivery to Adelaide then adds about A$17.50 to A$92 on a single bar. Ask a local dealer for a quote and compare the total.

Is there GST on gold bought in Adelaide?

Not on investment gold. GST is a national tax, so South Australia has no separate rule. Gold of at least 99.5% fineness in bar, wafer or coin form is input taxed under ATO ruling GSTR 2003/10, so no GST is added. Jewellery and 22 carat coins such as Sovereigns can carry 10% GST. See our Australian gold tax guide.

Where can I sell gold in Adelaide?

Adelaide Exchange Jewellers says it buys back ingots, bullion bars and gold and silver coins, and Vintari and City Gold Bullion both buy gold. You can also post bullion interstate: Ainslie accepts insured Express Post parcels up to A$25,000 after online ID checks, and on 12 October 2026 its estimator quoted 1.96% below spot for 1oz.

How long does gold take to arrive in Adelaide from an online dealer?

From the dealers' own shipping pages: Jaggards dispatches within 3 business days and parcels usually arrive 1 to 3 business days later; The Perth Mint quotes one to three working days after dispatch; Ainslie ships within five business days of cleared funds. Allow about a week, and someone must sign for the parcel.

Do I need ID to buy or sell gold in Adelaide?

Usually, yes. From 1 July 2026, AUSTRAC treats buying or selling precious metals for A$10,000 or more in cash as a regulated service, so dealers must identify you first and report large cash deals. Most dealers also ask for ID on smaller sales. Paying or being paid by bank transfer is the simplest route.
