How does GoldBroker work?

GoldBroker sits between a coin shop and a vault platform. You pick a specific product, such as a 1oz Valcambi bar or a 1 kilo bar, and choose one of three services: home delivery, vault storage, or pickup from a vault. Most clients choose storage, which is the core of the business.

The key design choice is who holds the metal. When you store, you sign a storage contract directly with Malca-Amit, a private vaulting and logistics company that GoldBroker says was founded in 1963. GoldBroker's terms say it "does not store the Products on behalf of the Client". Your items are weighed, sealed in containers with unique seal numbers, and listed on a storage certificate in your name. This is allocated gold in its strictest form: specific items, owned by you, not a share of a pooled stock. Read allocated vs unallocated gold for why that matters.

You can visit the vault to inspect or withdraw your metal without a GoldBroker representative present, with 48 hours' notice. That direct access is the main thing GoldBroker offers that pooled or fractional services do not.

How much does GoldBroker charge to buy?

Every bar or coin costs the spot price of its gold plus a premium, the extra that covers manufacturing, distribution and the seller's margin. GoldBroker builds its commission into the premium and shows both on each product page. Smaller items carry bigger premiums.

GoldBroker price check by automated browser at 08:44 UTC (09:44 BST) on Monday 12 October 2026. Prices were displayed in euros; GoldBroker lets you pay in pounds. GBP figures are converted at gold-api.com's rates at the same time (spot £3,158.26) and are for guidance only. Premium = price ÷ (fine ounces × spot) − 1; a kilo bar holds 32.15 troy ounces. GoldBroker's own page showed premiums of 3.64% (1oz) and 1.26% (1 kilo) against its own metal price.

For context, the cheapest 1oz Britannia coin in our UK check that morning was £3,247.09 at Chards, 2.77% over spot, delivered to your door. BullionVault's buy price plus its 0.5% commission came to about 0.50% over spot in our BullionVault review. GoldBroker's 1oz bar is not cheap; its kilo bar is closer to the market. Track how UK premiums move on the premium tracker.

How payment works

Orders under €5,000 are paid by card when you order. From €5,000 up to the price of a kilo bar for storage (or €20,000 for delivery), you register a card and pay by bank transfer within 72 hours; the price is locked when you confirm. Larger orders need a quotation, which adds a 3% buffer for price moves and is settled by transfer within 72 hours, with any unused buffer refunded or kept as credit. You can pay in pounds, euros, dollars, Swiss francs or Canadian dollars, but your choice then applies to all future payments and buybacks. Its terms say there is no right to cancel because prices move with the market; a cancellation, if agreed, costs fees plus any fall in price.

Storage fees: how much does it cost to keep gold with GoldBroker?

This is where GoldBroker differs most from cheaper vault services. Fees are a percentage of the value of each metal you hold, with an account maintenance fee for small holdings. GoldBroker publishes the table in euros.

GoldBroker storage fees for gold (published October 2026)
Value of gold heldAnnual feeAccount maintenance
Under €10,0001.50%€90 a year

€250,000 to €299,9991.00%Free
€300,000 to €399,9990.95%Free
€400,000 and overOn request

The fee covers opening the Malca-Amit account, transport to the vault, customs paperwork, sealing, certificates and insurance at market value. The first year is billed in full when you order; after that, fees are billed quarterly in advance. If you sell or withdraw during the first year, you do not get part of that year's fee back. Extras include €200 per vault visit and €20 per photo of your items before they go into the vault.

A worked example: one 1oz bar at €3,869.40 would cost about €58 a year at 1.50%, plus the €90 maintenance fee, so roughly €148 (about £125) a year, or 3.8% of its value. At that rate, storage alone would cancel out the premium on a 1oz bar in about a year. On €50,000 of gold, the fee is €600 a year (about £508). Our storage cost calculator works out other amounts, and the gold storage guide compares vaults with keeping gold at home.

GoldBroker vs BullionVault

Both firms are London-based and both store gold abroad with professional vault operators, including Malca-Amit. The difference is what you own and what you pay for it.

In plain terms: BullionVault is the low-cost way to hold vaulted gold, and GoldBroker charges more for physical bars you can identify and collect yourself. If you are comparing vault services, also read our GoldCore review and BullionVault vs GoldCore.

Delivery and selling back

Delivery: UPS delivers to the United States, Canada and most European countries; GoldBroker asks you to check availability for your address in its shop. Its terms estimate delivery 3 to 5 days after full payment. The recipient must show ID and sign. Orders above €20,000 for delivery need a quotation, and orders over €100,000 go by armoured vehicle. We did not find a published delivery fee; it is shown at checkout.

Selling: GoldBroker buys back metal held in Malca-Amit's vaults. You send a request through the secure messaging in your account, the price is set from spot when the order is executed, and a 1% commission is deducted. GoldBroker says the process usually takes 2 to 3 business days. Because the metal never leaves the vault, there is no testing or postage. If you withdraw silver, platinum or palladium, import VAT and customs fees may apply because the metal leaves the free-trade zone.

UK tax note: gold bars are not exempt from Capital Gains Tax in the way that Britannias and Sovereigns are. See our UK gold tax guide.

Is GoldBroker regulated?

Buying and storing physical gold is generally not a regulated investment activity in the UK. The Advertising Standards Authority notes that this means no Financial Services Compensation Scheme or Financial Ombudsman protection for the metal. GoldBroker's website does not claim FCA authorisation, and its terms refer to UK anti-money laundering law, which is why it carries out identity, address and bank-account checks before you trade. Your protection comes mainly from the structure: the contract with Malca-Amit in your own name and Lloyd's insurance arranged by Malca-Amit. GoldBroker's terms limit its own liability for storage to delivering the metal to the vault. You can check any firm's status on the FCA register.

What customers say

We do not publish testimonials or invent ratings. GoldBroker's own site shows a 3.7 score with selected reviews; this is the independent figure we saw on 12 October 2026:

GoldBroker on third-party review sites
SiteScore shownBased on
Trustpilot3.7 out of 551 reviews (claimed profile since May 2015; paid Trustpilot subscription)

Fifty-one reviews over more than a decade is a thin base. Positive comments tend to mention the storage certificate and responsive staff; negative ones mention friction during account verification.

Pros

  • Whole bars and coins held in your own name
  • Direct contract with the vault operator
  • Choice of four vault cities
  • Simple buyback: spot less 1%
  • Pay in pounds as well as euros

Cons

  • Storage fees of 0.95% to 1.50% a year are high
  • First year's storage billed upfront, no refund if you sell early
  • No London vault
  • Small items carry high premiums
  • No FCA or FSCS protection for the metal

Who GoldBroker suits, and who should look elsewhere

Good fit: buyers with larger sums who specifically want identifiable bars held outside the UK banking system, in their own name, with the right to visit and collect.

Look elsewhere if: you want the lowest running costs (BullionVault), you want gold at home (a UK coin dealer), or you are investing a few thousand pounds, where the €90 fee and 1.50% rate weigh heavily. Start with the best places to buy gold in the UK.

Alternatives to GoldBroker

  • The Royal Mint review: buy coins and bars direct, with its own vault service.
  • Chards review: the cheapest 1oz Britannia in our 12 October check, delivered to your door.
  • GoldCore review: another allocated storage service with overseas vaults.
