How JM Bullion scores on our checks
We score every dealer against the same published criteria. This is not a star rating and it is not based on testimonials. It reflects what we could verify from the dealer's own policies and independent sources. Read how we review gold dealers.
| Check | Result | What we found |
|---|---|---|
| Clear, live pricing | Meets | Prices move with spot, with quantity tiers and a 10-minute price lock at checkout. |
| Low payment fees | Meets | 4% discount for check or wire, so you can avoid the higher card price. |
| Insured delivery | Meets | Full third-party insurance until a signature or delivery confirmation. |
| Buyback available | Meets | Sell to Us service; scrap metal accepted with a $1,000 minimum (CNBC Select). |
| Ownership and track record | Meets | Trading since 2011, BBB accredited since 2014, owned by a NYSE-listed company. |
| Premium we could verify | Not measured | JM Bullion's website does not allow automated price checks, so we do not publish a premium for it. We only show prices our monthly automated check can capture. |
| International buyers | Does not meet | No international shipping mentioned. Not suitable for UK, Canadian or Australian buyers. |
How much does JM Bullion charge?
Like every dealer, JM Bullion charges the spot price plus a premium. Its pricing page says prices are "based on spot price plus a small premium" and that quantity discounts apply to most products.
The biggest lever you control is payment. JM Bullion gives a 4% discount for paper check or bank wire. On a single 1 oz gold coin at around $4,400, that is roughly $176 saved, simply by not paying by card.
To show what that looks like in practice, here are the prices we captured for the same coin at two of JM Bullion's main competitors on the same evening:
| Dealer | Check or wire | Premium | Card or PayPal | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SD Bullion | $4,335.39 | 3.33% | $4,516.03 | 7.64% |
| APMEX | $4,424.29 | 5.45% | $4,608.64 | 9.84% |
| JM Bullion | Not shown: site does not allow automated price checks | |||
Prices captured at 21:17 BST (4:17 p.m. ET) on Saturday, October 10, 2026, while the gold market was closed. Spot from gold-api.com. Premium = price ÷ spot − 1. A Gold Eagle contains one troy ounce of gold in a 22-carat (91.67%) alloy.
Before you order, open the same product at two or three dealers, set the payment method to check or wire, and compare the total including shipping. Our premium calculator turns any price into a percentage over spot.
Shipping, insurance and delivery
JM Bullion ships free on orders of $199 or more. Orders go by USPS, FedEx, UPS or armored car depending on the contents, and expedited shipping is available at extra cost. According to its shipping page, every package is covered by full third-party insurance for loss or damage in transit, and that cover ends once a signature or delivery confirmation is obtained. Orders usually ship within one business day of cleared payment.
Two practical points: be home to sign for valuable parcels, and inspect the package before signing. Some complaints on review sites involve parcels left without a signature, so consider asking the carrier to hold the package for collection.
Selling gold back to JM Bullion
JM Bullion buys back bullion through its Sell to Us service, and CNBC Select reports that it also buys scrap precious metal with a $1,000 minimum. Dealers always pay less than they charge, so check the live buy price before you sell and compare it with at least one other buyer. Read how to sell gold for the best price.
If you sell at a profit, the IRS generally taxes gains on gold held more than a year as a collectible, at a maximum rate of 28% (IRS Topic 409). See our US gold tax guide.
What customers say
We do not publish testimonials or invent ratings. These are the scores shown on independent review sites when we checked on October 10, 2026:
| Site | Score shown | Based on |
|---|---|---|
| Better Business Bureau | A+ rating (accredited) | BBB's own rating method |
| Trustpilot | 4.5 out of 5 | 2,571 reviews |
| ConsumerAffairs | 4.6 out of 5 | 1,116 ratings |
The common complaints are about shipping delays during busy periods, parcels and signatures, and fees for cancelled orders. These are common across large bullion dealers, but read the cancellation terms before you order, because prices are locked once you check out.

Is JM Bullion or APMEX better?
It depends on what you buy. JM Bullion's site does not allow automated price checks, so we compare the two on fees, shipping and policies rather than on a live price. See our APMEX vs JM Bullion comparison for fees, shipping and policies side by side.
