PAMP Suisse gold bars (incl. Lady Fortuna): prices, sizes and how to check them
PAMP Suisse bars are 999.9 fine gold bars made by MKS PAMP SA in Ticino, Switzerland, an LBMA Good Delivery refiner since 1987. The Lady Fortuna design is its best-known minted bar. On 11 October 2026 we found a new 1oz PAMP bar at 3.6% over spot in the UK and 4.6% in the US.
PAMP made the decorated minted bar mainstream. This page explains the range, what a PAMP bar is worth today, what dealers actually charged when we checked, and how to make sure the one you buy is genuine.
Who makes PAMP bars, and is the refiner accredited?
PAMP stands for Produits Artistiques Métaux Précieux. The company was founded in Ticino in 1977, and MKS, a Geneva precious metals group founded by Mahmoud Kassem Shakarchi in 1979, took a majority stake in 1981. The refinery appears on the LBMA Good Delivery list as MKS PAMP SA, Castel San Pietro, accredited on 10 June 1987. LBMA (the London Bullion Market Association) only lists refiners whose large bars meet its standards for the professional market, which is why PAMP bars are accepted by dealers almost everywhere. A separate joint venture, MMTC-PAMP India, has its own listing (Haryana, 2014).
| Refinery | MKS PAMP SA, Castel San Pietro, Switzerland |
|---|---|

What sizes do PAMP bars come in?
PAMP splits its range into minted bars (stamped from a gold strip, with a polished finish and design) and cast bars (poured into a mould). The sizes below are those listed in Silver Bullion's PAMP guide, which matches what we saw for sale. For help choosing a weight, see our gold bar sizes guide.
| Type | Sizes | Packaging |
|---|---|---|
| Minted, Lady Fortuna | 1g, 2.5g, 5g, 10g, 1 tola, 20g, 1oz, 3 tola, 50g, 5 tola, 100g | Sealed CertiPAMP card with assay certificate |
| Large minted | 5oz, 250g, 10oz, 500g, 1kg | Clear case with assay certificate |
| Cast | 50g, 100g, 250g, 500g, 1kg, 10 tola, 100oz, 400oz | Certificate, no CertiPAMP card |
| Designs and series | Lunar Legends, Rosa, Good Luck, US-themed bars | Usually CertiPAMP; carry higher premiums |
A tola is a South Asian unit of about 11.66 grams. PAMP also strikes bars for other brands, such as the Harrods-branded bars Chards lists, so you may see the PAMP name on bars that look different.
What is a PAMP gold bar worth today?
The gold inside a bar is worth its weight times the spot price (the live wholesale price). These figures update live. They are melt values, not what a dealer will charge or pay.
| Bar | Fine gold | Value (USD) | Value (GBP) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5g Fortuna | 5 g | ... | ... |
| 10g Fortuna | 10 g | ... | ... |
| 1oz Fortuna | 31.10 g | ... | ... |
| 100g Fortuna | 100 g | ... | ... |
| 1kg cast | 1,000 g | ... | ... |
Spot-based melt values from our live price feed. Dealer prices add a premium; buyback prices are usually a little under spot.
What premiums did we find on PAMP bars?
A premium is what you pay above the gold value. We captured single-bar prices on dealers' own pages on Sunday 11 October 2026, when the gold market was closed, and compared them with other 1oz bars on the same pages.
| Dealer | Bar | Price | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chards (UK) | PAMP 1oz minted, new (out of stock) | £3,285.31 | 3.60% |

Chards prices captured 07:04 to 07:08 BST; APMEX check or wire price for 1 to 9 bars captured 12:45 BST (7:45 a.m. ET). Spot from gold-api.com. Premium = price ÷ (fine oz × spot) − 1. Lunar and other design bars cost far more: APMEX listed a 2025 PAMP Lunar Legends White Snake 1oz at $5,109.30. Our premium tracker repeats checks monthly.
What this tells you: the PAMP name adds a little, usually a fraction of a percent, over plain Swiss bars of the same weight. Special designs add much more, and that extra is not reliably paid back when you sell. If lowest cost is the aim, compare with our list of the best gold bars to buy.
Cast or minted: which PAMP bar should you choose?
Minted PAMP bars are the familiar shiny Fortuna bars. They are precisely sized, sealed in CertiPAMP and easy to sell in small amounts. Cast bars have a rougher, poured look and usually a smaller premium per gram in larger sizes, but they do not come in the sealed card. Our guide to cast vs minted bars covers the trade-offs in detail.
Who are PAMP bars best for?
- Good fit: buyers who want a bar any dealer will recognise, in small sizes (1g to 100g), with strong anti-counterfeit features.
- Less ideal: buyers chasing the lowest cost per ounce, who may find plain bars or pre-owned bars from other LBMA refiners slightly cheaper.
- Avoid if: you are paying for limited designs expecting a profit. Design premiums are collector pricing.
How do you spot a fake PAMP bar?
PAMP is one of the most copied bar brands precisely because it is so popular. These checks reduce the risk:
- Buy from a known dealer. Most fakes reach people through online marketplaces and private sales.
- Match the serial number on the bar to the number on the CertiPAMP card. Look for a clean, unbroken seal.
- Scan with VERISCAN on bars that carry the logo. It compares the bar's microscopic surface with a record made at the refinery.
- Weigh and measure on accurate scales. Gold is dense, so a fake of the right weight is usually too thick or too large.
- Ask for a non-destructive test (XRF or ultrasonic) if you buy loose or pre-owned. Read what an assay card is.
Where can you buy PAMP bars in each country?
| Country | Where to look | Tax note |
|---|---|---|
| UK | Specialist dealers such as Chards (seen in our check); see UK dealer reviews | VAT-free; bars are liable to CGT |
| US | Online dealers such as APMEX (seen in our check); see US dealer reviews | Gains taxed as collectibles; state sales tax varies |
| Canada | Bullion dealers; see Canadian dealer reviews | GST/HST-free at 99.5%+ purity |
| Australia | Bullion dealers; see Australian dealer reviews | GST-free at 99.5%+ purity |
How should you store a PAMP bar?
Keep minted bars in their CertiPAMP card, away from moisture and scratches, in a home safe or a professional vault. Check your home insurance limit for valuables. Frequently asked questions
Is a PAMP Suisse gold bar a good buy?
PAMP is one of the most widely recognised bar brands and its refinery, MKS PAMP SA, is on the LBMA Good Delivery list. That makes PAMP bars easy to resell worldwide. The trade-off is price: in our 11 October 2026 check, a 1oz PAMP bar cost a little more than some plain bars from other Swiss refiners.
What is the Lady Fortuna gold bar?
Lady Fortuna is the PAMP design showing the Roman goddess of fortune on the back of its minted bars. It comes sealed in CertiPAMP packaging with an assay certificate and serial number. Newer Fortuna bars also carry VERISCAN, which lets you scan the bar's surface to confirm it matches PAMP's production record.
How do I check a PAMP bar is real?
Buy from an established dealer, then check the serial number on the bar matches the CertiPAMP card, inspect the packaging for tampering, and scan newer bars with the VERISCAN app. Weigh and measure it against PAMP's specifications. A dealer can also run a non-destructive test. See our guide to telling if gold is real.
Should I take a PAMP bar out of its card?
It is usually best not to. The sealed CertiPAMP card links the bar to its serial number and assay certificate, and dealers may pay less for a loose bar because they need to test it. Chards, for example, sells loose pre-owned PAMP bars as a separate, cheaper product line.
Who owns PAMP?
PAMP is part of the MKS PAMP Group. MKS was founded in Geneva in 1979 by Mahmoud Kassem Shakarchi and took a majority stake in PAMP in 1981. The refinery, listed by LBMA as MKS PAMP SA, is in Castel San Pietro, Ticino, Switzerland.
Are PAMP bars free of VAT and tax?
PAMP bars of 99.99% purity count as investment gold, so they are VAT-free in the UK and GST-free in Canada and Australia when they meet local rules. Gold bars are not free of Capital Gains Tax in the UK, and the US taxes gains on bullion as collectibles.
